Radon gas barriers applied in liquid form offer many advantages over barriers based on prefabricated sheets: total continuity (absence of joints), very low permeability to this gas and an easy and quick application.

Krypton Chemical, S.L. proposes two coatings for this type of application:

1. Pure polyurea for hot application, Rayston Spray D50 is specially designed to be applied in the foundations of new constructions. It can be applied adhered, or also in a floating form (no need of previous support preparation) together with the special Geomax Spray 200 geotextile (NMDC system, unique in the market).

1. Impermax 2K M is a cold applied, solvent-free, elastomeric polyurethane specially designed for small repairs and sealing in existing constructions where it is necessary to reduce the inflow of radon gas.

Both coatings perfectly meet the requirements of the Spanish standar CTE, DB H S6. So, if applied at a thickness larger than 2 mm. as they have got a diffusion coefficient lower than 10¯¹¹ m2/second, they are suitable as barriers to radon gas.

Case study: Refurbishment of a terrace with decorative colored quartz finish (Portugal)

We present a case study where two construction needs have been optimally solved in a single intervention.

1. On the one hand, infiltration problems were solved with the help of an elastomeric and continuous membrane applied in liquid form, using Impermax SF (solvent-free).

2. In addition, a new highly resistant and decorative finish was created for the terrace, thanks to the colored quartz, sealed with a transparent Colodur resin.

The IMPERMAX 2K M, Krypton Chemical’s greenest membrane. It is a membrane that respects the environment and protects people’s health. Low environmental impact resin as it is formulated with renewable raw materials of vegetable origin.

The COOL ROOF system is a roof on which a highly reflective white membrane is applied. Solar radiation is reflected by this membrane, greatly reducing the temperature of the roof and, consequently, that of the building. A “cool roof” is capable of reflecting most of the energy from the sun, rather than allowing it to penetrate the interior of the building.

The efficiency of a “cool roof” can be measured with the SRI, Solar Reflectance Index. The protective top coat COLODUR Pigmented in white has an SRI value of 105, one of the highest on the market. Likewise, the aliphatic resin of IMPERMAX A, with an SRI of 100, also provides excellent performance as a “cool roof” solution.

Finally, the IMPERMAX A or COLODUR Pigmented white coatings, with high chemical resistance, to the exterior and to UV radiation, allow the surface temperature of the treatment to be reduced, increasing its durability. They also help dramatically lower air conditioning costs during hot summer months. And ultimately mitigate the well-known “Urban Heat Island” effect.

Besides, if photovoltaic panels are installed on top of a roof with this type of treatment, the production of clean energy is multiplied, since the panels will work at a lower temperature.

Polyaspartic, Fast execution, Greater Profitability

We could colloquially define a PAS as a cold applied aliphatic polyurea (either roller, trowel or airless), or with electrical / hydraulic machines such as those used to apply conventional polyureas.

Thanks to their characteristics, polyaspartics are a good option for highly resistant, durable floor coverings with excellent mechanical properties.

Also thanks to its fast curing, polyaspartics are widely applied on industrial floors, shortening the application time and allowing a quick commissioning of the pavement.

Case study of the month: Waterproofing of a shopping center´s roof in Mallorca. “Cool Roof” top coat

In this project it has been possible to solve the problems of water infiltration and the improvement of thermal comfort inside the building in a single, fast and simple action.

All this thanks to the application of the waterproofing system formed by the IMPERMAX POLYUREA H FLEX membrane, thermoset, elastic and with great capacity to bridge cracks in the support.

And of the aliphatic protective finish type “cool roof”, of COLODUR Pigmented in white.

There are several solutions that efficiently combine a waterproofing membrane applied in liquid form with the improvement of thermal and acoustic insulation.

In inverted roofs (always flat), the XPS insulating panels are placed on top of the waterproofing membrane, which also acts as a vapor barrier. If the roof is to be visited, these panels can be replaced by draining slabs of the filter slab (see photo).

In the IMPERMAX STRAT system (common in northern Europe), designed to withstand pedestrian traffic above it, a carrier (Rayston Vel or Rayston Vel Plus) separates the PIR insulating panels from the waterproofing membrane, which is exposed.

The IMPERMAX FOAM system reduces the risk of thermal bridges, and optimizes productivity at the time of application, by using a totally continuous polyurethane foam, which is finally protected with a waterproofing membrane.

What would be the world without colors?

Today we want to present our RAYSTON RCB-581-A aliphatic polyurethane resin to agglomerate EPDM, creating incredible designs for rubber flooring in playgrounds, entrances or pool beaches.

The system consists of applying a layer of TP FLEX RAYSTON PRIMER, followed by a thick layer of Rubber Binder mixed with black SBR granules. This first layer of rubber is what will give the necessary thickness to provide the desired anti-impact protection. Finally, the desired designs for our playgrounds and play areas are achieved with colored EPDM granules and RAYSTON RCB-581-A Aliphatic Rubber Binder, a one-component UV resistant polyurethane resin, to provide a color intensity of the pavement for a long time.

Intense reds, bright yellows and vibrant greens. Bright colors are part of the fun of a play area and at Krypton Chemical we want this fun to last for a long time. Our aliphatic rubber binder is not only very flexible, but also resistant against UV radiation, maintaining its transparent appearance without yellowing.

And the designs? Well, as the following pictures show, our imagination is the limit!

Case study of the month: Improvement of the thermal insulation and waterproofing of a shopping center in Mallorca (Impermax Foam System)

On a metal roof, ecological polyurethane insulating foam, Rayston Spray Foam 50W, the waterproofing membrane of IMPERMAX POLYUREA H FLEX and the reflective protective finish of COLODUR type “cold ceiling” pigmented in white were applied.

In this way, in a single action, with a single totally compact system, it was possible to improve acoustic and thermal insulation, solve long-term water infiltration problems, increase the useful life of the roof and improve thermal comfort in the interior of the building.

New epoxy-based system with low yellowing for the realization of decorative floors with the addition of metallic pigments.

This Epoxy flooring is a highly decorative solution for homes, hotels, garages and areas where the aesthetic finish is important. This system is applied using a rubber trowel in several layers.

IMPERMAX 2K FLEX VR polyurethane membrane applied with a variable ratio hot spray machine

Most of the hot applied polyureas and polyurethanes that Krypton Chemical offers to the market require a spraying machine with a 1:1 ratio by volume.

However, when exceptional performance is required, a variable ratio system is most likely required. This is the case of the RAYSTON FIRE 3:1 reference with an optimal reaction to fire classification. Another example is the IMPERMAX 2K FLEX VR polyurethane, which has excellent elasticity (more than 500%) and an extraordinary ability to bridge possible cracks in the substrate (of more than 7 mm, measured at -10ºC).

IMPERMAX 2K FLEX VR is especially recommended for waterproofing roofs with supports susceptible to large movements (unstable building structure, shifting ground, high thermal oscillations …).

Case study of the month: Roof waterproofing in Italy

The system used was PRIMER TP FLEX, IMPERMAX 2K FLEX VR membrane and COLODUR pigmented top coat.

Krypton Chemical has just obtained a new international asbestos encapsulation certificate, with the IMPERMAX FOAM ALUMINUM system applied in two simple stages.

First, a base coat is applied (adherence and regulator of the support) made up of RAYSTON SPRAY FOAM 50W polyurethane insulating foam and then the topcaot formed by a waterproofing membrane made of IMPERMAX POLYUREA H FLEX (aluminum color) is applied.

In this way, in a single, quick, simple and economical action, possible problems of infiltration of the roof can be repaired, encapsulated asbestos, improve thermal and acoustic insulation, extend the life of the roof… all without disturbing the work developed inside buildings.

An alternative to this solution, also certified for asbestos encapsulation, is the system made up of Polyurea Rayston X5 and an aliphatic protective topcoat. Also economical system and applied in two simple stages.

Case study of the month: Refurbishment and waterproofing of the roof of Reus Airport

The old waterproofing, based on a traditional asphalt fabric system, protected by a mortar and topcoat with a filtron slab, was beginning to fail.

The work consisted of removing this filter slab and repairing the mortar support. Subsequently, the continuous POLYUREA RAYSTON membrane was primed and applied.

The old filter slab, most of it in good condition, could be recovered avoiding the generation of waste and was installed again on top of a spacer layer of geotextile spread over the polyurea membrane.

New slow-reacting hybrid polyurea developed for manual application & Hot spray with static mixer, with a working time of approximately 20 minutes, this time period allows you to sprinkle colorful arids, flakes… to obtain a more resistant or decorative finish depending on project requirements the curing time of 3-4 hours, no smell at all !!!!!

Krypton Chemical launches its new protective coating IMPERMAX EP

IMPERMAX EP is a two component epoxy resin, very high thixotropy, 100% solids, compatible with wet concrete substrates (not standing water).

It can be applied (brush, roller or airless spray) in very high thicknesses, even on vertical surfaces.

It has high chemical resistance, in continuous contact with slightly acidic or alkaline water, urban or industrial wastewater, sewage, leachate…

Mainly designed as an interior lining of manholes, elevator shafts and other structures, especially buried and without significant support movements.

Case study of the month: Waterproofing of the railway bridge over the Tordera river

The storm “Gloria” left the old bridge over the Tordera river that communicated by train the towns of Blanes and Malgrat de Mar, between the provinces of Barcelona and Girona. The 221.3 meter long infrastructure was awarded for more than 8.6 million euros.

The applied system was based on ETE certificate number 16/149 for waterproofing bridge decks. The continuous, elastomeric and thermosetting membrane of reference IMPERMAX POLYUREA H FLEX has an excellent capacity to bridge cracks in the support (class B.4.2 dynamic and A5 static).

This membrane, once applied, was protected with a high grammage geotextile. Finally the ballast was extended, the support of the train tracks.
